I had the pleasure of having Mrs. Gasca as a science teacher from the 3rd to the 8th grade. I learned much more than just science from Mrs. Gasca, such as research, analytical, organization, and essay writing skills, which greatly helped me through my years in high school and in college. In college, I found myself thinking back on Mrs. Gasca’s lessons when I did research for my classes, wrote an essay exam, or plotted an outline for a term paper. I am now a teacher, myself.

I have personally never been much of a science or math brain, but in my six years under Mrs. Gasca’s teaching, I found myself not only understanding the subject but also enjoying it. Mrs. Gasca has a way of encouraging students to do their best, with an emphasis on understanding material through hands-on activities. Under Mrs. Gasca’s supervision I found myself entering science competitions, and even looking forward to completing experiments. I have found from my post-8th grade education that I had been learning science at a level way past that of middle school, but I was not even aware because of Mrs. Gasca’s ability to explain concepts and provide the nurturing learning environment that helped her students to excel. Her guidance as a teacher made me more confident as a student, which prompted me to positively engage in my work, and therefore better comprehend her lessons.

In my fifteen plus years as a student, I can honestly say that Mrs. Gasca was the best teacher I have ever had, due to her enthusiasm for education, her dedication to her students, and her passion for making sure her students settle for no less than their best. I strongly recommend Mrs. Gasca as a teacher or tutor, as I know she will succeed in enlightening her students for current and future success in their education.

Mrs. Gasca taught both of my children science from grades 6-8. My daughter is now a speech therapist and my son is an attorney.

When I asked both of them about their experiences with Mrs. Gasca, two key words were immediately mentioned: passion and creativity. Mrs. Gasca has a passion for science that she communicated to her students and a passion to help her students learn and succeed. She was creative in the wide variety of types experiences she presented and in her ability to teach for different types of learners (visual, auditory, hands-on learning, etc). She was able to help students with different ability levels to be successful and feel a sense of accomplishment. My daughter reported that the way that Mrs. Gasca taught her how to study helped her throughout her educational career.

As a parent, I always experienced Mrs. Gasca as a good communicator. She sent clear written information home and went out of her way to communicate directly and constructively if any child was having any difficulty.

I would highly recommend Jean Gasca as a tutor or teacher. I have confidence that she has the knowledge base and skill set to successfully work with all types of students.

I am currently a senior program manager for a non-profit that runs online trainings for companies that provide supportive housing all over the country.

I had the privilege of having Jean Gasca as a math tutor. I worked with her off and on when I had trouble in math from seventh through eleventh grade (from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus) and benefited greatly from her help. She is a compassionate and patient math teacher. I had math teachers who would become frustrated when I did not grasp the concepts they were trying to teach. When this occurred, I found it easy and comforting to go to Ms. Gasca for the extra help I needed. She never scoffed at my struggles but always worked tirelessly with me until I mastered the material.

She is as interested in how the student finds the answer to the problem as she is in the problem itself, making her not only a gifted mathematician but also a wonderful teacher. She showed me useful tricks that helped me remember certain procedures as well as the importance of keeping my work organized and legible. I worked with her on difficult material that I needed to master for a Pre-Calculus test and with her help I managed to obtain a B+ on a test that the majority of the class failed. I was recommended for Calculus the next year, which I doubt would have happened without Ms. Gasca’s generous help.

Both of my children had Jean Gasca as a science teacher for several years, and I cannot emphasize enough what a wonderful teacher she is.

My daughter, who had her for science in 5th through 8th grades, said, “She was interested in science and interested in us.” Through Jean’s methods, my daughter researched, completed, and presented a science project that won a place in the school science fair. She said she had some science later in high school, and the teachers there were not as good as Jean.

My son (who was not an easy kid) had Jean as his science teacher in 5th through 7th grades. Through Jean’s encouragement, he did a science project that won a 1st place award in his category in the school science fair, and went on to the LA County Science Fair, and won an award there. It was a great experience for him. He was upset when she left before his 8th grade, because he felt she was one of the best teachers he had.

Her science classroom was an interesting place to be. There were animals in aquariums and cages, colored solutions in bottles, and the children’s artistic creations of science concepts (both flat and 3-D) all around the room. She helped both of my children, as well as others, with their organizing skills. The way she taught them how to do longer papers or projects, breaking it into smaller bits with shorter deadlines and having an outline to follow and a rubric for how it would be graded, was a significant learning tool for the children.

My daughter enjoyed science so much that she is now a Lead STEM Educator at a museum in Southern California! I hope this gives you a good picture about the capabilities of Jean Gasca. I would put any kid in a class or tutoring situation with her in a second.

My 6th grade son absolutely enjoys working with Ms. Jean. He looks forward to having his math sessions with her, and enjoys the interactive and totally age-appropriate challenges that she presents to him after he has learned the basics of a concept.

His understanding of different mathematical concepts has improved tremendously, as Ms. Jean’s approaches are not only methodical but designed in a way where the child understands the steps and widens the perspective of the work. She is open to the different styles in which teachers may approach a problem, and she acknowledges and mirrors that as much as possible. But she also allows for teaching the concept in a different way, depending on how the child learns and understands. She has a beautiful gift of teaching with fun. After my son began his sessions with Ms. Jean, over a two-month period, my son’s love for math was re-ignited. It has brought so much joy and confidence in him that reflects not only in his school work and homework, but also in his overall well-being. He doesn’t shy away from a challenging math problem like he did before. Instead, he is totally open to it, gladly accepts the challenge and attempts it, whether he is certain of the answer or not.

As a working parent with a very demanding schedule, I am filled with a tremendous amount of gratitude for Ms. Jean. Her joy, her knowledge, and her wisdom are priceless. Thank you, thank you!

My son began tutoring with Jean when he was halfway through 4th grade. We started tutoring one time a week and added a second weekly session when possible. The tutoring mainly focuses on reading comprehension, which is a challenge for him. 

He has learned various methods to help improve comprehension through context clues and tricks for guessing the meanings of unfamiliar words. He is challenged in a good way. He has gained steady confidence knowing that if he doesn’t understand a concept or idea, Jean will patiently help him get to the answer or conclusion. He never feels unsupported.  He is always at ease with Jean during his tutoring sessions. He feels comfortable with her positive demeanor and patience. He has repeatedly mentioned that he enjoys the sessions. 

Jean has been a wonderful tutor, smart and patient. She pays meticulous attention to areas of concern and works thoroughly to create a positive and effective tutoring environment. It is always more effective when parents and the tutor are communicating, and Jean provides wonderful feedback for us as parents. I highly recommend Jean for your child or children.
